Show your business name instead of a phone number (Australia)

How to register an SMS sender ID with the ACMA, what you'll need, and what changes.

From 1 July 2026, texts in Australia that show a business name at the top instead of a phone number need that name (a "sender ID") registered on the ACMA's SMS Sender ID Register. Unregistered names are shown as "Unverified".

If your reminders come from a phone number, you don't need to do anything.

Before you start: replies by text won't work

Texts sent from a name are one-way, so clients can't reply by text. They can still confirm or cancel using the confirmation link in your reminder: make sure your reminder message includes the $REPLYLINK tag, which adds a link to your online confirmation page. If you rely on clients texting you back with questions, keep sending from a phone number.

Choosing your sender ID

Your sender ID must:

  • be 2 to 11 characters, using letters and numbers

  • not be numbers only

  • not start or end with a space

  • not contain the word "Unverified"

  • match your business name as it appears on the business name or trademark register: the full name, an abbreviation, an acronym or your initials

For example, "Smith Family Dental" could use "SmithDental" or "SFD".

What you'll need

  1. The sender ID you'd like shown

  2. Roughly how many texts you send a month

  3. A company officer listed on your business registration: their first and last name, work email (not Gmail or similar) and mobile

  4. Proof of business: either your full company extract showing your ABN and officers, or a screenshot of the Contacts tab on your Australian Business Register (ABR) record (log in at abr.gov.au with myID → Update ABN record → Contacts)

  5. A photo ID for that officer (driver licence or passport) for an identity check

Make sure your contact details on the ABR are up to date before you start.

How it works

  1. Message us from the chat in your account, and we'll send you the registration form.

  2. We submit your registration to our SMS provider, Twilio. Their review takes up to three days, then the mobile carriers review it.

  3. You may get an email from the ACMA titled "SMS Sender ID Register: request to confirm your application". Open the link and sign in with myID (Standard strength or higher) to confirm. The email address you sign in with must be listed as an authorised contact for your business on the ABR.

  4. Once it's approved, we'll switch your reminders over to show your business name.
